The Sydney Harbour Bridge is, together with the Sydney Opera House, probably the most famous landmark of the city, so much so that the two are oftentimes pictured together.
While there’s plenty of ferries to bring you from one shore to the other inside the Harbour, the bridge seems to add something magic to its surroundings. Be it because it seems to defy gravity, or because it enables a path otherwise denied, be it the pattern, design, reflections in the sunset and sunrise lights and textures so much intertwined with air and space to get that magic aura… Ok, enough :-)
The Harbour Bridge is a beautiful and massive structure that connects South and North Sydney across Sydney Harbour (a.k.a Port Jackson). It allows for train, car and pedestrian crossing, and the stroll is actually a very easy one to take.
There are also paid tours that you can take on top of the structure, basically riding the steel arch and enjoying the views from quite a vantage point.
Even if you are not into that much adventure, I would recommend the easier pedestrian crossing, as it offers very rewarding views of the Harbour, the Opera House and more. There you can still opt for some additional height at the Pylon Lookout which is closer to the Southern side of the bridge. Once across, the North side of the Harbour offers a different perspective of the Opera House, and while you’re at it, you might want to check out the Luna Park too.
