I love portraits. There is something special about creating a narrative for a person at a very specific moment in time. It creates a story that asks to be recounted, and of course, makes for great pictures to hang in your home.
I offer portrait sessions with different styles for different purpose. Let me describe my offering so you can select what fits your needs.
Clients often ask me what to wear to their portrait photo session. To answer that, I prepared this article.
Personal portraiture
If you are looking at portraits to celebrate yourself or your loved ones, there is a variety of styles that are fitting. The thing that all of these have in common is that they are meant for personal use, to share on your social media accounts, your blog, and printed for the family album and wall decor, and to share with grandparents too!
Senior portraits
For seniors and graduations, photo sessions are preferably done outdoors. They should have a vibrant style that incorporates their vibrant personality. I usually allow more time than the average photographer, and allow unlimited outfits change within the time-frame.
Social media portraits
These photos are for anyone to use as their profile picture on social media, as well as the social media banner (where applicable). They need to capture a spontaneous and genuine image of you. These are different from lifestyle sessions (see below, in the professional section). Social media portrait sessions are usually shorter (and cheaper) than other.
Dating profile portraits
These photos are for anyone who would like to rise above the selfie-world and show themselves at their best. Also here, the style should shine not only on beauty but also personality and overall carry over the vibe and energy of the person. Things like laughing at jokes, a great smile, and some lifestyle images of your hobbies and sports are usually a great addition.
Beauty portraits
Beauty portraits are a great gift to yourself, and your partner. I generally recommend hiring a makeup artist as part of the investment. The session can be done outdoors or in studio. Everything – hair, makeup, wardrobe – here is stepped up a notch or two in order to produce astonishing images. Basic retouching is included, and for even better results, professional retouching can be added.
Professional portraiture
If you are looking at portraits for professional and commercial use, there are additional considerations that need to be done. For example, you may want to fit the images to the special design of your website. And you may also want to include some images in your brochures. And so on.
Professional headshots
These are the simplest type of professional portraits, and generally capture only the head from just above the shoulders up. You can use headshots in social media profiles, business cards, email signatures, and so on. Sessions are usually in studio, but can be done on location if you are a team (or group) and volume discount applies. Images can also be delivered with transparent background.
Environmental portraits
These are my favorite. They are meant for artists and professionals and will take place at their work place. The idea is to portray you and your story, what is that you do (sculptor, painter, chef, personal trainer…). The resulting images are to be used in pretty much every piece of marketing collateral, starting from your website and business cards, to your activity brochures, catalogs, etc.
Modeling portfolio
If you are looking at creating a modeling portfolio, we will plan a theme that we want to carry along the session. It might be comprised of an outdoor and a studio session, or just a studio session. A makeup artist is very much recommended. Besides images for a portfolio book, we will also create a few comp cards to choose from.
Actor and actress portfolio
This type of portfolio is similar to the one for models, however with less emphasis on beauty.
Lifestyle sessions
If you want to complement your social media marketing activities with images of yourself, then lifestyle sessions are what you need. We capture images that show you in various moments of the day, enhancing the stories and posts that you will produce. They go well on Instagram, Facebook, email campaigns and so on. The goal will be to produce a lot of images to support your social media production.
Depending on your marketing schedule and goals, you may want to consider a subscription to produce fresh material every 90 days or sooner.
