2014.10 Partial solar eclipse

EDIT: bonus animation in the gallery! Continue reading the post and click on the gallery, last image is an animation.

One of the coolest things you can witness is a solar eclipse. It is not as rare as it looks, except for the fact that it is harder to be in the right spot when it happens.

I witnessed a full solar eclipse few years ago, yet this time – and thanks to a friend of mine – I was ready to capture it on camera.

All you need is one of those solar filter films, the ones usually sold around these times. We got ours online, and attached it in front of the lens (300mm for me) with a bit of tape. Being very dark, you will need to adjust both aperture and shutter speed (maybe even ISO) to get the picture that you want. For the naked eye though the filter works just great.

The results are impressive, even with a relatively short lens: makes me want to do more of it. What about you? :-)
