Lone Pine was my night stay on my recent trip to Death Valley. I was tipped to this town by a friend, and being tight on time, I didn’t investigate further to find out about accomodation inside the park.
While a closer accomodation to the place of interest is generally better, this to me was a nice surprise with a hidden gem. The motel I stayed was definitely nice, and the close by downtown offered some selection of restaurants and gas definitely cheaper than any pump inside the Death Valley Park (where gas can be up to $1/gallon more expensive).
The hidden gem was to discover that Lone Pine prides itself of Alabama Hills, Hollywood’s western movies set of choice, still continuing to offer services to more recent movies though. I am sure you can find out more about Lone Pine if you like to, and I hope that you will recognize some of the rocky landscapes in these pictures in your memories.
